Drive safely this summer.

As we get closer to the Summer, there is an increasing likelihood of glare through the windscreen, which can make driving difficult and sometimes dangerous. Follow our tips to drive safely in these conditions.

Use of sunglasses will be a big help in reducing the majority of glare from the sun. Buy a polarised pair, and be sure to purchase prescription sunglasses if the use of a normal pair would impair your vision. Keep them nearby at all times, ready to grab if the sun takes you by surprise. Similarly, your car's internal sun visors can be adjusted to a helpful angle, so ensure that these are unbroken and you know how to use them quickly.

Stay clutter free

Extra items on the dashboard may be a distraction, especially if they are made of a particularly reflective material. Keep items like this in the glove compartment or somewhere else where they won't be a nuisance while driving.

Plan carefully

If it is possible, try to plan a journey that won't take you directly into the sun. If this is not possible, drive slowly and be aware of other vehicles and other obstacles around you. Leave plenty of time for your journey, so you won't feel the need to rush to your destination. It is also a good idea to leave extra space between you and vehicles in front of you, just in case a halt is required.
